SmartMusic Microphones

We've got two notable SmartMusic microphone tidbits to share today. This might sound a little sales-pitchy, but I think it will be good news too!

First we have  a sale running on the Windows microphones  --  they're at $14.95 ($5 off). If you're starting to feel like you've made it over the back-to-school hump, perhaps now is a good time to get students up and running with SmartMusic at home, and we hope this sale can help. Here's a tip  --  if you have many students who will need microphones, you may consider combining their orders into one purchase, which would represent a significant savings in shipping costs over each student ordering their microphones separately.

The other tidbit has to do with SmartMusic microphones for the Macintosh. Since Macs have a line input and not a microphone input, in the past Mac users had to purchase the Windows mic AND a USB adaptor, and the combination cost over $50. To improve the situation we've been working  --  for quite some time  --  with the company that developed the SmartMusic microphone, and now have a USB microphone that works great with the Mac. Built and tested specifically for SmartMusic, the new Macintosh microphone requires no adaptor, costs just $29.95, and is available today at smartmusic.com.

Hi, all.

I am considering purchasing Smart Music for my music students in Louisiana.  I have a couple of questions that aren't clearly answered by the website, or maybe I just haven't found the answers.

If you have the teacher package but want students to work on their assignments at home, do the students have to purchase a separate package for their home computers?

Also, why can't you just use any microphone for SmartMusic? Is there something that the SmartMusic mics do that a regular microphone doesn't do?

I apologize that we didn’t respond to your question sooner – it was unintentionally included in a massive block of spam that we just finished taking care of today. While I hope you received your answer by other means long ago, I thought I’d reply here to benefit others as well.

Students would indeed need to purchase their own subscription(s) to SmartMusic to do homework on personal computers. You can buy a practice room subscription for their use if you like, but home use would require another sub.

We tested a lot of microphones and most work very poorly. We had a microphone built that works really well with instruments and singing. The stuff built in to computers, webcams or at most stores are all built for human speech, so when you aim a trumpet at it, it doesn't work so hot. The "nice" instrumental microphones are fantastic for recording, but they usually send too much information to SmartMusic! The SmartMusic mics are built specifically to trim out unnecessary noise and sound information and focus only on the pitch and rhythm being played.

Thanks!
